No it;s not I never used a crate for potty training , my dog was fine in any area of the house we never looked her up . What I did is whenever she did 1 or 2 i would take her by the back of her neck and bring her nose close to the mess .... How do you house train a new dog that was a stray?

we are fostering a dog and he is a bit shy,, also he is pooping a peeing in the house, the person we got him from said he was house trained but clearly he is not... he also gets into a lot of stuff while we are sleeping. he ate a loaf of bread, tried to get into cubbords and in the process knocks over plants. we are getting a gate to keep him confined to one area at night and while we are out... we do not want a kennel b/c the woman said he was very upset in the one she had. if anyone has any advice on what we should do that would be great! he is an awesome dog and gets along with my cats, son, and other dog. he is very sweet and gentile,
